History of the prize

The GE & Science Prize for Young Life Scientists was established in 1995 to help bring science to life by recognizing outstanding PhDs from around the world and rewarding their research in the field of molecular biology. There is now an alumni of over 50 prizewinners, many working in some of the world's most prestigious labs.

Entrants write a 1000-word synopsis of their thesis and submit this to the journal Science for judging by an executive scientific panel. Each year one grand prizewinner is selected who wins US$25 000 in prize money. Four regional prizes are also awarded each year, each winner receiving US$5000.
